The Year Behind and The Year Ahead

Wednesday, 31 December 2014

Well here we are, at the end of 2014. It's crazy how quickly this year has gone! It feels like a complete blur with work projects and college keeping me occupied for a large proportion of it. But, I've had some good moments this year, and some not so good moments.

To say 'Goodbye' to 2014 and 'Hello' to 2015, I thought it'd be nice to do recap moments from 2014 in pictures, and a 2015 resolution post.

Moments from 2014

1. Participated in my first dance show in over 8 years - such an amazing feeling being back on stage
2. Said 'Goodbye' to my beautiful little girl - such a sad day, I miss her!
3. Got to see Shane Filan on his first solo UK tour - such a great concert
4. Spent a lovely day at Hardwick Park with Omar
5.  Finally got my flat keys and moved into my first home
6. Had a relaxing holiday at the Lake District - wish I was back there!
7. Lovely birthday meal with Chris - even better when you get a tasty free drink
8. Said 'Hi' to a Penguin - I want one!
9. Passed 5 CIMA exams - only 6 more to go.

2015 Resolutions

To get fit and healthy

A very cliche resolution, I know, but it's one I think I should have. I've been discussing summer holiday plans already and this year I'd like to lie by the pool in a bikini and not be hiding my tummy under a swimming costume or baggy t-shirt. I'm not going to starve myself, I'm going to be good, eat healthy and exercise more.

Pass 4 more CIMA exams

I want to complete CIMA by summer 2016 and to do so I need to pass at least 4 exams in 2015. It's al lot of work but it'll all be worth it in the end.

Make more effort on my blog and in the blogging world.

My blog will be one in February, I can't believe it's been nearly a year since I started blogging. I started with very good intentions with blogging but some writers block, and busy times meant I lost motivation, and readers as a result. To those of you who've hung around, I really appreciate your support. I want to build up my blog in 2015, get more involvement in the blogging world and confidence in myself with what I'm writing.

Read more books

When I was younger I used to read, a lot, but since I got to uni reading took a back step. In 2014 I've read more than I probably have in a good few years, but 2015 I want to read even more. I'm aiming for 12 this year, which may not seem much, but it's achievable around college and work.

Thanks to everyone who made this year special, and here's hoping next year will be even better!

The Christmas Tag

Monday, 29 December 2014

Sadly, Christmas is now over, and it's back to normality. No more chocolate for breakfast, no more Christmas songs, back to work & back to the gym. But to keep up the festivities for a little while longer, here's my Christmas tag!
1.What is your favourite Christmas Movie?
I have lots of favourites (see my top 5 here!), I don't mind watching the classics but I much prefer the more recent ones. Muppet Christmas Carol without a doubt it my favourite. It has singing, Christmas, a good story, and Muppets!
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
Christmas morning. Unless it's from Omar and I'm not seeing him on Christmas morning, then we just open them on the day we give them.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
Christmas 2006. It hadn't been a great year, and two days before my Dad had been taken into hospital for another operation, we didn't think he'd come home in time for Christmas Day. There was nothing particular exciting about that day, I just remember him being home and happy. A nice way to end what was a horrible year.
4. Favourite festive food?
Yorkshire Puddings. They're not exactly festive as I love them all year round, but they're 100000 times better on Christmas Day. My cousin, my niece and I are in a competition to see who can eat the most each year.
5. Favourite Christmas gift?
Nothing specifically comes to mind when I think of my favourite gift. I've received amazing gifts over the years from dolls/toys to phones/games consoles to bedding/candles. I've appreciated every gift I've got and I can't pick just one favourite.
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
I love the smell of the turkey cooking on Christmas Day morning. There's nothing better than coming downstairs, with the Turkey already in the oven (yes my Mum gets up and puts the turkey in at 3am), and the smells filling the kitchen. It's a favourite in our household. We all love that smell.
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Every Christmas Eve we gather at my Grandma's house and my Mum's side of the family eat party type food, swap presents and spend a few hours together. When I got home I always found my new PJs that the Christmas Elves left me so I was ready for Santa coming. It's nice. It's what we've always done. Thankfully the Elves still leave you new PJs when you've moved into your own house!
8. What tops your tree?
I have a sparkly purple star on top of my tree this year. We always had an Angel at my Mum's but I thought I'd be different and have a star.
9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always wanted but never recieved?
I always wanted a little kitchen type play thing that would let me serve McDonalds to all my friends and family. I never got one because they didn't exist when I was younger. I was devastated when I got to my late teens and saw my cousins with one!
10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
I think having a day where its acceptable to not be at work, to get dressed nice, eat lots of food and just be with family. There's no other day of the year where you can do that. It's perfect.
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!
All the best,

My Top 5 Christmas Movies

Friday, 26 December 2014

Boxing Day is a day best spend lying on the sofa, in Pjs, with blankets, a roaring fire, munching chocolates and popcorn, watching Christmas movies. Here's my top 5 list of Christmas movies to watch on this lazy day.

1. Muppet's Christmas Carol - I can't go a Christmas without watching this. The classic Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol but with added singing and Muppets. What could be better?

2. Frozen - A great animated Disney film that made it's name in 2013. Perfect for all year round but the icy theme makes it even better at Christmas. Snuggle up with a Hot Chocolate and get ready to sing along.

3. The Holiday - A brilliant romantic comedy about two women with completely different lifestyles swapping homes for the Christmas period. A fun, easy to watch film.

4. Elf - The perfect film for all the family. So funny and entertaining how ever old you are. Will Ferrel is amazing in it.

5. Polar Express - This is my Dad's favourite Christmas film. It's another great animated film that's perfect for the whole family. Give it a watch, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Enjoy your duvet day!

My New Home

Sunday, 14 December 2014

It's been a long time in coming, but finally I picked up the keys to my new home on the 25th November.

After lots of busy weekends, I can now happily say that I've been living here for 2 weeks and my new home is practically finished. To celebrate, here's a little tour of my new home.

Panoramic of my living room/kitchen

Panoramic of my bedroom
My lovely photo cushions, a house warming gift from my Parents
My Living Room Furniture
My Walk-in-Wardrobe, every Girl's Dream!
It's definitely been worth the wait.

Sorry, I've been MIA...

Tuesday, 9 December 2014

To anyone out there in blog land that reads my blog, I'm sorry I've been MIA!

The last month has been a bit crazy with exams, moving house and work. I seem to have neglected a lot of things during this time and unfortunately my blog was one of them.

I'm having to borrow my parents Internet to write this post, but as of Friday I'll be all set up in my flat and I'll be back with a new ideas and posts to share going forward.

Bear with me, and hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

Book Review - On the Fence

Sunday, 16 November 2014

On the Fence
By Kasie West

I went to bed last night to read just the first chapter of this book, two and a half hours later I finally went to sleep, I couldn’t put it down. It’s such a good book that has you on an emotional rollercoaster. You laugh, you cry, you fall in love. A great read.

Charlie’s Mum died when she was little and having been raised by her brothers and father she has had very little girlie influence on her life. A self-confessed tomboy, Charlie has no trouble talking to boys or tackling them to the ground, but when it comes to finding one to date, she doesn’t think anyone is interested in her.

Forced to get a new job to pay her father back she’s thrown into the world of fashion and makeup, but is brought out of her shell and makes a new group of friends who show her a different side to being a girl. And it isn’t long before she’s getting male attention she isn’t used to.

According to Braden boys like to feel useful once in a while, and Charlie takes this into account when speaking to her new date. It starts off harmless with Evan teaching Charlie about baseball (nothing that she didn’t already know) and ends up with her hiding her true self to impress him.  And this doesn’t go down well with Braden at all.

With both Braden and Charlie dealing with family issues, their midnight talks provide a great opportunity for them to listen and talk without having to keep up appearances for Charlie’s older brothers. A great way to show how their relationship changes.

I loved Charlie for the fact I found her very relatable. I was tomboy for most of the time I was at school, and have always found it easier to be friends with guys than girls. I can totally relate to her struggles as she tries to learn what makeup to use and how to dress fashionably, as well as the need to feel like she must hide parts of herself to impress guys.

Thankfully she realises, as we all do at some point in life, that it’s better to be yourself and you can have more than one side to you.

This is a great light contemporary read that keeps you wanting more on every page turn.

Song Sunday - I See Fire

Sunday, 2 November 2014

I See Fire
by Ed Sheeran

I tend to prefer movie soundtracks a lot more than normal chart music, and this is my new favourite soundtrack. The vocals are amazing, and I love the style. I find it very relaxing and it reminds me of a song in another film I love that never made it to soundtrack. The newest addition to my driving playlist.

Song Sunday - Express

Sunday, 26 October 2014

Express
by Christina Aguilera

As it's Movie week on X Factor this week, today's Song Sunday is from one of my favourite films. Watching this inspired me to attend a Burlesque dance workshop and learn some new skills, and I've been lucky enough to dance to this in the studio. Another song I never get sick of hearing, and a film I don't get sick of watching.

Song Sunday - A Drop in the Ocean

Sunday, 19 October 2014

A Drop in the Ocean
by Ron Pope

This song is without a doubt one of my favourite songs of all time. I first heard it on an episode of Vampire Diaries and had to download it. I love the emotion behind the song, I love Ron Pope's voice and I just love the song. When I finally get enough time in a studio on my own I have choreography in my head that I just can't wait to try out against this song.

Song Sunday - I like to Move It

I like to Move It - Madagascar

I like to move it, move it. I can't stop singing this song this week. We were learning a dance to Crazy Stupid Love at rehearsal the other night and, after a great suggestion from Victoria, we ended up practicing to this and it's never left my head since. Great song to make you happy, and a great film also.

Song Sunday - Don't

Sunday, 5 October 2014

Ed Sheeran - Don't

I'm not the biggest Ed Sheeran fan, I tend to find it takes me a while to get into his songs when they get released and this one was no different. It grew on me at dance as we did a core exercise routine to it each week and has now become my core work song. If I'm doing core exercises in the house, at dance or at the gym this is the song I use for motivation.

September Monthly Round Up

Saturday, 4 October 2014

Wow! I can't believe how long it is since I did a monthly round up (July was my last) and how lazy I've been since I got back from holiday with no weekly weigh in posts. I'm rubbish. I apologise.

Goal Number 1 - Complete Managerial Level of my CIMA Qualification

Since I completed the operational level in July, this is a new updated goal. Managerial level is level 2 of the qualification and today I've just finished the tuition courses for the two modules I'm sitting in November. I think I've pushed myself a bit far, opting to do two at once but I think it's going well. I have two mock exams to do this week which should give me an indication of how I'm getting on, and then it's just revision revision revision until exam day. Fingers crossed!

Goal Number 2 - Move into my Own Home

I can't wait for this goal to be gone, and hopefully by the end of October it will be. I got a phone call on Thursday to say it was 98% complete and should be 100% complete by the end of next week, so there's no reason I won't be in by the end of October....I'll believe it when I get there though. I have been inside and seen it so I know progress is being made but it's taking far too long for my liking.

Goal Number 3 - Loose a Stone in Weight

I don't even know where I currently stand on this. I haven't been on the scales in a good few weeks. I won't be surprised to see a gain, I've been lazy and I know I have. I can't remember the last time I was at the gym, and my diet has been all over the place. But from this week I'm going back to the gym, I'm going to be good and I'm going to get my dancers body back. I've joined the professional dance class permanently now so if I want the chance of performing in public from it I need to get my fitness up, so no more excuses.

Goal Number 4 - Get my Splits on Both Legs

I'm getting there. Slowly and surely. I've been doing lots of stretching at dance to help, my leg hold is getting better and I'm managing to lift my leg into the hip flexor stretch (picture before for reference), something that I've always struggled with. I can definitely feel the stretch getting deeper and hopefully I will get this by the end of the year. It's on my bucket list so I better.

Goal Number 5 - Learn to Cook

Although my cooking hasn't been tested out much recently, my mind is spinning with food ideas I can't wait to try. I have a long list of recipes ready for when I get into the flat, and I'm getting more adventurous with my food choices so hopefully my food vocabulary will expand. I'm also getting bored of eating the same things all the time, which is very unusual for me so hopefully I'll be motivated to start experimenting as soon as I get my keys.

Plan for October

For many people October is stoptober, a chance to either give up smoking or drinking for an month to improve your health. I don't smoke, and I very rarely drink, so my stoptober is to stop making excuses. I'm notorious for making them. Whether it by why I didn't go to the gym, why I ate that piece of chocolate cake, why I haven't done any revision, I make them a lot. But I'm going to stop. No more excuses. That's the plan.

Song Sunday - All About That Bass

Sunday, 28 September 2014

Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass

I love this song so much at the moment. I constantly have it on in the car and sing a long to it all the. She made it to No1 in America, and I'm pretty sure she'll make it to No1 in the UK this weekend too. Great song from someone I'm sure the UK will be hearing more from in the future.

Book Review: The McLaughlins Book 1, 2 and 3.

Saturday, 27 September 2014

Good Girl Gone Plaid (Book 1), Kilty Pleasure (Book 2) & Loch and Key (Book 3)
of The McLaughlins

by Shelli Stevens

I'll be honest and say, if it wasn't for the fact that Amazon are giving the Kindle version of Good Girl Gone Plaid away for free, I wouldn't have read these books. After finishing my last book, I was looking for something light to read but something that would keep my attention, and this series did just that.

The McLaughlin series is a collection of 4 books based around the 4 siblings in the McLaughlin family; Aleck, Colin, Ian and Kenzie. The stories are all based around the love life of the characters and the troubles they face. So far only 3 books have been released, with the final book in series due out in 3 days time.

Romance books aren't really my thing. I've read a few Nicholas Sparks books, and enjoyed them, but I normally prefer books that take me to completely different worlds. I liked these books for there ease to read and how different the stories were, despite being set on such a small island. There are a lot of sex scenes in these books, which can be quite detailed but no where near the extent Fifty Shades went too. My only real complaint is that they weren't slightly longer (I read each one in a couple of hours).

So, if you're looking for something easy and fun to read, give these a go. They're enjoyable romantic books to distract you from normal world for a while. I'm sure the fourth will be just as good as the others when it comes out too.

Song Sunday - Bang Bang

Sunday, 21 September 2014

Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang

My current favourite happy song! This song is very catchy, and if I hear it on the way to work I find myself singing it all day. But it makes me smile, and makes me want to get up and dance. What more can you want from a song?

Sam Smith - How Will I know?

This song made me fall in love with Sam Smith. Such a beautiful version of a brilliant song. My lovely dance teacher introduced me to this with an amazing routine. Beautifully inspiring, and ideal easy listening for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Book Review: Theif's Magic - Book 1 of Millennium's Rule

Saturday, 6 September 2014

Thief's Magic: Book 1 of Millennium's Rule

by Trudi Canavan

In a world where an industrial revolution is powered by magic, Tyen, a student of archaeology, unearths a sentient book called Vella. Once a young sorcerer-bookbinder, Vella was transformed into a useful tool by one of the greatest sorcerers of history. Since then she has been collecting information, including a vital clue to the disaster Tyen's world faces.
Elsewhere, in a land ruled by the priests, Rielle the dyer's daughter has been taught that to use magic is to steal from the Angels. Yet she knows she has a talent for it, and that there is a corrupter in the city willing to teach her how to use it - should she dare to risk the Angels' wrath.
But not everything is as Tyen and Rielle have been raised to believe. Not the nature of magic, nor the laws of their lands.
Not even the people they trust.

I am a massive fan of Trudi Canavan's work, and couldn't wait to get stuck into her new series. The book is set in a whole new fantasy world with magic and magic users throughout. However, when I realised this book was split into parts, I wasn't sure I was going to like it as much as some of the other's Trudi Canavan has written. I'd loved the intro to Tyen and his story, and was disappointed to be moving on to someone else. But it only took a few pages for me to fall in love Rielle and her story. I even felt disappointed to be leaving her and returning to Tyen when the point arose, but once more I was hooked and that cycle of emotions kept repeating all the way to the end.

The stories of Tyen and Rielle are completely different from each other, but I love how their cultures and stories contrast. Neither faces the same decisions nor problems. Tyen is an academic in a land where magic is freely available and used by those who know how. Trying to prove he can become something more than just a machine operator, he discovers a magical book in a tomb and makes the decision to keep it to himself with the aim of proving it's worth to the academy and educating it in the process. When his plan backfires he is forced to run, his chances of ever graduating or working at the university gone.

Whereas Rielle is in a land where only the Priests who are chosen by the Angels can use magic. Anyone else caught is branded a Tainted and outcast from the city. Knowing she has the ability to sense magic and could, if she chose to, learn to use magic Rielle has kept her power secret from everyone. We experience her first love and the torment she puts herself through as she is torn between love and family. But it is not long until the young girl is tricked into a situation she can't get out of without using magic and displeasing the Angels. Faced with an even more difficult decision as to who to keep happy, Rielle takes an option but it soon turns out for the worst.

As both set off on their adventures, it is possible to imagine a way in which the two characters could meet but I suspect there is a lot more twists and turns to come before we ever get to that point, if we ever do. If you prefer reading books that only follow one story throughout, then maybe this isn't for you, but if you're open to different stories with a subtle link throughout, I'm sure you'll love this.

I personally cannot wait for the next book to see how the two stories pan out. This is an excellent beginning to what I'm sure is going to be another excellent trilogy by a wonderful author.

Birthday Celebrations and Holidays!

Friday, 5 September 2014

Apologies for the quietness for the past few weeks, I've been busy celebrating my 23rd Birthday and enjoying a lovely family holiday in the Lake District. I haven't been the best with diet and exercise whilst I've been MIA from blogging but I don't think I've overindulged too much, and I have done a lot of walking in the past seven days, so I'm hoping there isn't too much damage...but we'll find that out on my next weekly weigh in!

I've had some amazing birthday meals and a great holiday, so thought I'd share what I'd been up to and recommend some great places to go if you're ever in the areas.

P.S. this is going to be a long one...Sorry! I'm making up for my absence.

Birthday Celebration 1 - Las Iguanas, Newcastle upon Tyne with Chris

I forgot I'd signed up to Las Iguana's email offers, so was very surprised the week before my birthday to receive an email offering me a free main meal for my birthday. This was an offer I couldn't let go to waste so I managed to convince Chris to join me for a Mexican birthday meal.

I've been to Las Iguanas in Newcastle a few times and it's always busy, definitely book a table if you plan to go! Thankfully Chris had done so for us, otherwise it was a 45 min wait for a table. It's not the biggest of places and because it's always busy it was quite noisy. But we didn't mind.

The waiters were very friendly and helpful, and when they found out we were celebrating my birthday they brought me a free (non-alcoholic) passionfruit and orange cocktail. It probably wouldn't have been my first choice from the drinks menu, but it was a very nice alternative to diet cokes.

My free drink!
We opted against getting starters and just went straight to the mains. Chris went for The Classic Burger with fries, and I went for Our Famous Fajitas with Chicken Breast Strips and added Cheese.

Chris' Burger
My Chicken
My Wraps and Extras
I cannot fault my food at all, it was perfect. The chicken was nicely flavoured and spicy, the sauces (salsa & sour cream) were both very smooth and tasty, the veg was fried lovely, and the wraps were really warm. Chris said, and I quote, "It was delish" when I asked about his burger.

We both decided as a birthday treat to get desserts, naughty choice but totally worth it. I had an absolutely huge slice of chocolate orange fudge cake with vanilla ice cream. The cake was beautiful. Very soft and moist, the sauce was hot, very chocolatey and had a strong taste of orange, but not too overpowering. It was probably one of the nicest fudge cakes I've had in a long time. Chris choose just to have ice cream but regretted that choice when he saw my cake. Moral of the story, always go for the chocolate cake if you're being naughty and having dessert anyway.

Overall it was very good birthday celebrations with a very good friend.

Birthday Celebration 2 - Rialtos, Northumberland with Omar and DVDs

As we weren't going to get to spend my birthday together this year as I was away on holiday, Omar took me after work to our favourite little Italian restaurant in his village. We've been a few times before and never really had a bad meal so I was quite happy to go again for my birthday.

We both chose to have starters of potato skins with garlic sauce, and then a main each. I had penne arribiata, and Omar had a kiev pizza. My pasta was lovely, very fresh and a good size portion but very spicy. I struggled to finish it because of how spicy it was, and wouldn't have got even close to finishing it without the glass of water and diet coke I drank. It was still very nice and I would most likely have it again. Omar's pizza was a very good size but didn't have as much taste as he's had in some of their other pizzas. It was still very fresh and very good for the price.

Full from our starters and mains we opted not to have dessert and enjoyed the nice walk back in the sunshine to his house for some chocolates and DVDs. I got spoilt with my birthday presents from him and his Mum.

I got a bit forgetful at this point and didn't think to take photos of our lovely food. Next time I'll try doubly hard to remember!

Birthday Celebration 3 - Caffe Riva, Bowness upon Windermere with Mum and Dad

What an amazing meal! After considering a few different places to go for food in Bowness we ended up in Caffe Riva, a little Italian on the main road down from town to the lake which has only been open under the current owners for  2 months.

We arrived without a booking and were greeted by a very nice waitress who went to see if there was a table for us, there wasn't, but she was very friendly and helpful and said there would only be a twenty minute wait for a table. As everywhere else we'd passed seemed just as busy we decided to wait and took a seat near the bar.

The drinks menu wasn't too badly priced, in my opinion, we paid £12 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio and £5 for a pint of Peroni. We thought we would just order at the bar whilst we waited but as my Mum got off her seat another very helpful waiter came over and took our order. We only waited a few minutes before the drinks arrived, along with a small bowl of peanuts. Enough to keep us going until we got our table.

The overall wait for a table wasn't long and the staff were very friendly and apologetic as we waited, regularly asking if there was anything they could get us and talking us through the specials menu. We soon got our table, placed our orders and our food arrived a little while after. And it was unbelievable.

I chose Breaded Chicken Escalope with Linguine Napoli, expecting a small portion of pasta and one piece of reasonable sized chicken I was very surprised when my plate arrived. I had a portion of pasta that I would have expected from any other Italian as a main course on it's own and two massive chicken breast escalopes. I wish I'd taken a picture of it because it was so amazing. Everything on the plate was so fresh that I just had to keep eating, even when I felt full. The food was so nice I couldn't stop eating. I even ignored a lot of the garlic bread pizza we'd got to go with the mains because the food was just so nice, and I never ignore garlic bread!

My Mum had linguini with cream, egg, parmesan and pancetta. Again the portion size was unbelievable, but again she battled through and ate the majority. I didn't try any of hers but she assured me it was just as nice as all of ours, and it did look it.

But I think the best meal of the night was what my dad ordered. Fregole alla Riva. Fregole (which is little pasta balls that look like risotto but taste and cook like pasta) with bacon, roasted red peppers, caramelised onions, spinach, in a light creamy sauce. I had a taste and it was absolutely gorgeous. I'd never had Fregole before but I will definitely be having it again. Such amazing flavours and textures all mixed beautifully together. It was a special on the night and came recommended to us by the manager, and he wasn't lying to us when he said it was good. Again, the portion size was unreal but it was so nice my Dad ate every little bit.

We were too full after mains to consider deserts but I'm sure they would have been just as amazing.

Possibly one of the best things about the restaurant was seeing the Manager's daughter helping out. I'm not good with guessing ages but I'd suspect she was about eight years old, and all night she followed her Mum or Dad around taking orders, handing out bills and making some drinks. It was so nice to see the interaction the whole family had with the restaurant and how welcoming they were to all their customers.

As we left the manager asked how we'd found everything and we openly said it was amazing. He turned to his daughter, put his arm round her and said "See Francesca, I told you we would do well". It was lovely to see how involved the whole family was the restaurant, and how much they all cared about it doing well.

I really like Italian food and I have a list of places that I think does nice Italian food, but this place tops the list. Everyone was so friendly, the food was amazing and I'll definitely be returning.

Holiday Accommodation - Windermere Marina Village

I love the Lakes and have stayed in a few different locations, in a variety of different accommodation types. I love Bowness on Windermere. The lake is gorgeous, the town is small but has a variety of different independent and high-street stores, as well as loads of cafes and restaurants to choose from. Windermere Marina Village is slightly out of the way, a ten to fifteen minute walk, of the hustle and bustle of the town centre, but it's worth the walk.

We stayed in a 2 bed Ghyll Cottage in the Marina Village, able to sleep up to 6 people. The cottage is an up-side-down cottage with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms downstairs, and an open plan kitchen/living area upstairs with a balcony overlooking the marina and the boats. It was gorgeous. Everything was so clean and tidy, the kitchen was really modern, the beds and sofas were comfy, the bathrooms were spotlessly clean and had amazing showers. You couldn't fault the quality of the place.

The village has it's own private beach leading right onto the waterside, with two bbq areas, jetties and picnic tables; a pub and restaurant right in the heart of the marina, and lots of boats to admire. I didn't want to come home at all! It's not the cheapest place to stay but if you want peace and quiet, and amazing views (if you like boats and water anyway) I can't recommend this place any more.

Day Out - South Lakes Safari Park

I loved the safari park. I've been to zoos before and they've been amazing but this was something else. The safari park is split in two areas, one is very much like a zoo with animals kept separate in their own areas not really mixing with other animals but with plenty of space to roam around, the other had everything running everywhere. You were walking along pavements with lima's jumping over your head. It was unreal.

You don't get to touch the animals but you are so close you could if you wanted. They just run around. Obviously it's not the ones that could kill you, the lions and tigers etc were in the more pen type side of the zoo, but all the emus, ostriches, donkeys, goats, ducks, birds, deer, limas, some monkeys etc were just running around.

There's loads of talks on the animals with the different feeders and you can get the chance to feed some of them. I missed the chance to feed the penguins which I'd have loved but the kids who did get to do it looked really pleased to have the penguins waddle around so close to them!

We also got to see how like us the monkeys are when one of them managed to steal a shoe that had dropped off the foot from a little girl in her push chair and ran off deep into it's enclosure with it. They were like children playing with a new toy, throwing it around, chasing after it and trying to eat it. I wouldn't have been impressed if it was my shoe but it was amusing to watch. They're very clever creatures.

It's not very big but they have plans to expand and I'll definitely be returning when they do. I'd recommend if you go to take a picnic as the food was alright but not wonderful. Just make sure you eat it before you go into the run free side of the park as you can't take food in there.

We went on a school day so the safari park was fairly quiet, I could imagine this being a nightmare place to get parked and around if it was busy. But I definitely think it's worth a visit whether you have kids or not. Here's just a few pictures of the animals we saw:

Emu

Snuggling Lima's

Bird!

Turtle

Donkey and Goat (The Donkey took a liking to my Mum and tried to follow us)

Lima!

Kangaroo

Prairie Dog

Tiger

Penguin (These are so cute)

Rhino

Monkey waiting for Banana from it's feeder

I did have lots of other days out but the safari park is something I thought I should share with everyone. It is definitely a place to go if you're in the area, it's such a nice experience and seeing animals walking free is so nice.

Sorry for the long rambling post, but here's just a recap of the last two weeks of my life. I'm really disappointed to be back home as I enjoyed the holiday so much but I can't wait to see all my friends and Omar again.

Weigh In - 27th August

Wednesday, 27 August 2014

I can't believe how quickly August has gone, it's nearly the end already. Which means, it's nearly my birthday!

So, this week I maintained my weight which I'm relatively pleased with. I don't think my eating was as good as it should have been last week, and I didn't do as much gym as I'd hoped, so it's all good.

I'm not expecting the next few weeks to be as good however, as it's my birthday and it's obligatory to celebrate for your birthday.

So, just a quick one this week but hopefully my next one will be longer with some birthday celebration posts.

Weigh In - 19th August

Tuesday, 19 August 2014

After week 2 of my calorie counting I've lost an additional 1.2lbs taking my total up to 2 lbs in the 2 weeks, and getting me back to the 'maintain' level I was trying to keep.

Alongside watching my calories and keeping up my workouts, I've cut back on the amount of diet coke I was drinking. This is probably the hardest for me to do, but I'm managing. One can is normally my treat for my afternoon break at work. Water until then and water afterwards. I never used to like drinking water, but I'm definitely getting used to it.

The major downside to last week was my plan to go and try out Body Combat only to find the gym so busy I couldn't actually get parked never mind into the gym to get changed. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to trying something new, but hopefully I will be able to try it out another time.

It's not been the most exciting of weeks, and I'm now just on a wind down to my Birthday and some time off week. Hopefully when I get back from my time off, I'll be motivated again and in a better position to plan my routines properly.

Summer Spends

Sunday, 17 August 2014

Although I'm supposed to be saving ready for my new house, there's a few spends I couldn't resist this summer. Here's my highlight summer spends for 2014.

1 - Jack Wills Fullford Tee - £14
I love Jack Wills clothing at the best of times, but even more so when they have a sale on. This tee comes in a wide range of colours and was down to £14 in their summer sale. The one I've got is a lovely lilac colour and is very loose fitting and comfortable. Great for summer! I love the style and comfort so much my Mum and Grandma are buying me two more in different colours for my birthday.

2 - Boots Cucumber 3 Minute Clay Mask - £1
My skin recently has been feeling very greasy and spotty so I decided to invest in a face mask to try and help my skin out. I didn't want to pay a lot of money so I did some research and found this Boots Cucumber 3 Minute Clay Mask which had some rather good reviews. I decided for £1 I couldn't really go wrong so bought it on my lunch break. After one use my skin was feeling much smoother and a horrible spot that had been developing on my chin disappeared straightaway. I was rather impressed. It's not a massive tube that you get, but if you use it twice a week as recommended it should definitely last more than a month. A purchase I will definitely be repeating.

3 - Dorothy Perkins High-Tops - £7
Another of my sale bargains. I wasn't particularly after a new pair of casual trainers but stumbled across these in the DP sale and they caught my eye. When I took a closer look I saw that the only size left in stock was my size, and decided it was fate! They're super comfy and will be great as the weather starts to get a bit cooler and wetter.

4 - Trudi Canavan Thief's Magic Ebook - £6.49
I love a good book and can't wait for my holidays to be able to do some serious non-college related reading. Trudi Canavan is one of my favourite authors, I've read every book she's published and loved them all. This is the first in her new trilogy and I'm really looking forward to getting into the story. It's a bit pricey for an Ebook in my opinion but since it's relatively new and still cheaper than the hard copy I'm not going to complain.

5 - Personal Planner - £17.95
This is by far my favourite summer spend. I love a good diary and this is definitely one of them. I won't write much here as I plan to write a blog post alone on the pros/cons of this purchase but I definitely will be buying another next summer.

6 - Sensationail Gel Glitter Nail Varnish - £15
I bought this to go with my outfit for the Christening I went to a few weeks ago. It's a gorgeous peachy colour with glitter, the only downside was it took quite a few coats to have a good coverage. You need a UV light for the gel to set, but once it is set it looks really good. For me I didn't quite get the two week coverage it claims to give but I'm not the best at applying nail varnish so I'm normally pretty pleased if they last more than a week.

Weigh In - August 12th

Tuesday, 12 August 2014

This week I have discovered the best workout ever for your calves....walking in safety boots!

My work project for this quarter is to do an audit on our fixed assets and this has had me spending time out in the workshop with our operations team and means I have to wear full safety gear; big glasses like you used to get in science class for experiments, luminous jacket that makes me look like a traffic cone, and safety boots that make my feet look very big and square...it's a very attractive look! After 1 day of wearing the boots I woke up almost crying with the pain in my calves. I cannot believe how much they hurt!

I never get calf pain from dancing or working out, and I always thought my calves were pretty strong from Relevés and working my way up to Pointe but I was definitely wrong. My respect for our ops team tripled this week after experiencing the pain they go through from wearing those boots everyday. I'm now off to go investigate ankle weights, in the hope they'll do just as good of a workout as the boots do.

I started logging my food again last week and after seven days I lost just under a pound, which I'm pretty pleased with. I'm now on day 3 of week 2 and it's still going pretty well. It was very easy to get back into the habit, and it'll be even easier when I eventually get into my own kitchen. I've never been this excited about a kitchen before but I honestly can't wait!

My lovely boyfriend spent Friday night being my personal trainer at the gym. He had me doing lots of weight training using the machines and then introduced me to what he described as my "new best friend" the medicine ball a.k.a Bally.

Every time I've done sit ups in the past I've never used any weight, but Omar had me practicing them with Bally. That hurt! I managed a few but it was so much harder than I ever thought it would be. That's given me something else to work on, not quite sure Bally and I will be best friends though.
So all in all, this has been a week of getting back into old habits and finding new stuff to work on. Good progress in my opinion!

July Monthly Round Up

Saturday, 2 August 2014

I can't believe it's already August! July seems to have passed by in seconds. I doesn't seem five minutes since I finished June with my dance show. This year is flying past so quickly, Christmas will soon be sneaking up on us. But before I even consider beginning to think about Christmas it's time to recap on July and plan for August (probably the best month of the year).

Goal Number 1 - Complete the Operational Level of my CIMA Qualification - Achieved 11/7/14

I passed! I'm so pleased this level is over with and I can move onto the next one. I've set myself a high standard now though, having achieved a 74% mark, but I'm determined to do just as well in my next two.

Goal Number 2 - Move into my own Home

I'm starting to hate this goal now as it's taking forever. I'm still waiting for my flat to be ready. I've been told there'll be "no more delays" but I've been told a lot of things that have not been true. So we shall see if this happens anytime soon.

Goal Number 3 - Loose a stone in weight

I continued with my idea of just maintaining until I got into my flat, and apart from a few bad weeks, this worked well. But going forward I'm back to pushing to loose. I've re-actived my calorie counting app, changed gyms, and will be going back to doing my daily ab and stretching exercises. My food may not be wonderful whilst I'm at home, but if I cut out all the rubbish then I should be ok.

Goal Number 4 - Get my Splits on Both Legs

My leg hold is getting better, a lot better, and my splits are progressing. I'm getting closer, but my legs just don't want to go straight which is why I don't seem to be getting much further forward. I need to find a way to work on that and hopefully I should be there soon.

Goal Number 5 - Learn to Cook

At work we have a scheme to promote healthy living, as part of this our resident chef gave us a cooking demonstration and made a delicious butterfly chicken dish with tomato sauce and roasted vegetables. It was absolutely gorgeous! Sauce is something I would never really think of making myself from scratch but after seeing how easily he did it, I will definitely be trying it out when I get a copy of the recipe. The chicken was very yummy too and I tried butternut squash for the first time, which I now love! I'm getting adventurous with my food and can't wait to get into my own kitchen to try it out. I've also thought up some good meal ideas to try and cook, and a new post series for my blog to do with food. If only my flat would hurry up and I could put these plans into action.

Plan for August

Now that I've changed gyms I'm a lot more motivated to go to the gym, and with my professional dance class pushing me I know I need to do more. So August's plan is to be very very good. At least 3 exercise sessions a week, and good food. Cut back on the fizzy drinks, get back on the water, and look better for my birthday on the 30th. I'm back at college too this month so I'm timing my healthy kick to start with college and hopefully I'll keep motivated on both at the same time.

Weigh In - 30th July

Wednesday, 30 July 2014

Despite my best intentions, the scales went up again....I only have myself to blame as I ate very badly and skipped a few gym sessions. I'm fighting a loosing battle between wanting to get fit this summer and wanting to enjoy it with food and friends. I'm beginning to feel my want to get fit winning though with the possibility of a dance job in October keeping me motivated. I've found a picture of me from when I was at my skinniest as well which I'm going to keep close for added motivation. I was a lot more body-confident then, it'd be nice to get back there.

It's not guaranteed yet that I'll be performing but if I am I'll need to be in good shape as it's a 50 minute performance with costume changes to 5 different decades worth of music. It sounds great fun but I have to prove I can keep up so the hard work is going to have to really start next week.

To get there I'm looking at my options for which gym classes I have to pick from over the next few weeks and sign up to these on top of my normal gym routines and dance classes, and I'm going to make sure I do at least one purely strength session also. I need to get back into the habit of doing my ab exercises before bed each day too.

So that's the plan for going forward. Focus on getting better and not on eating.

Weigh in - 22nd July

Tuesday, 22 July 2014

It's safe to say, I'm really struggling to move today. I went to visit my new job last week and was rather impressed so I joined. It's not very big but every time I've been since it's been very quiet, which is definitely a selling point for me. I haven't signed up for any classes yet, but I do plan to. For now I'm just working on getting back into a gym routine. In less than a week I've managed 3 gym sessions and a dance class. So I think I'm doing rather well.

I went to my first professional dance class last night and it was so much fun but I really am suffering today. I don't know how I've managed it but I seem to have pulled something in my back. Not ideal but it does seem to be easing. It was remarkably good after my gym session tonight which I was very surprised at, I'll probably regret the decision to go and workout though if I'm struggling even more in the morning. But overall it was a good session and has given me a lot to of areas improve on.

I don't think the gym is the reason behind this but, the extra weight I gained last week I've lost. To loose it so easily I'm pretty sure it was just water weight, but I'm not going to complain if it means I've got back to my maintain level. I've just got to keep going and hopefully my routine will fall back into place soon.

All in all a relatively good week.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

Sunday, 20 July 2014

I really enjoying reading other people's blog posts on their everyday makeup routines, and since it's been a while since I posted something other than my weekly weight updates I thought I'd use my spare time to share my routine. I'll admit now I'm not the greatest at applying my makeup, and a lot of the stuff I do I've taught myself along the way. I'm an only child so I haven't had sisters to learn from and my Mum doesn't wear a lot of makeup, so it has just been trial and error over the years. So here goes, my before to after routine. Apologies in advance for the poor quality of some of the photos.

Before
Stage 1: Moisturise

I have two major problems with my skin, an oily T zone and the tendency to go very red very easily. To combat this I apply No7 Redness Relief Balm (you'll see from this post I'm a massive No7 fan) before I start to straighten my hair and leave it to soak in. Then whilst I go and brush my teeth and get dressed I apply No7 Beautiful Skin day cream for Normal/Oily skin. This is one of my more recent No7 purchases and I love how smooth my skin feels after wearing it, and how much better it makes my makeup last. Once this has sunk in I move onto my foundation.

Stage 2: Face

I've gone through a lot of foundations over the years but really found it hard to get a great colour match because my skin is so pale. The best match I found was from the Benefit Hello Flawless range and when I first switched to this I absolutely loved it (see my Benefit Product Review) and was convinced this was going to be the best for me. But after another week or two of wearing it I began to notice that the foundation just wouldn't stay on my skin and I'd regularly left with patches around my nose where it had rubbed off, even if I hadn't touched my face at all. It didn't matter what I did it just wouldn't stay, so I switched back to my good old faithful No7 and their Stay Perfect foundation. I apply with my foundation brush (which I think is a No7 one also) all over my face so I get an even coverage.

My concealer again is a No7 one (beginning to see the trend here?) I bought it as it was supposed colour match to my foundation, however I do think it's slightly lighter. I only use a little of this under my eyes to try and hide my bags and to cover up any spots I have. Finally, I seal it all with some translucent powder (again No7) and apply a little bit of pink blusher on my cheeks to give me a little colour.

Stage 3: Eyes

You'll finally see some variation in products here. I start with my eyebrows, using Benefit Browzings to give some definition and shape to my face. I was a bit skeptical at first about this product because its seems a lot of money for such a little box, but despite using it every day it is lasting me a very long time. I use this with a Boots own make eyebrow brush to get my brows all going the right direction and the shape I want.

Next I apply eye shadow. I very rarely go for bright eye shadow because I never think it suits me. So out of the pallet in the picture, which is a Victoria Jackson pallet, I tend to go for the pink/white/gold colour on the left. I've had a few different Victoria Jackson products, particularly eyeshadows, and do like the colour variations but sometimes they don't show up very brightly unless you apply a lot. Majority of the time however, I don't find this an issue because I don't like my eyes to stand out loads.

After finishing my eyeshadow, I move onto eyeliner. The eyeliner I'm currently using is a Natural Collection one I bought for £1.99 from Boots. I'm not very good at applying eyeliner so I don't do anything fancy like wings, I just apply a line to my top and bottom lids to give my eyes a little bit of definition, and there's often some days where I don't apply any at all. Depends on how I'm feeling and if I'm running late.

Finally, I apply mascara. The one I'm currently using is my newest makeup purchase, No7 Lovely Lashes. I was, until this week, using Benefit They're Real mascara but I've now ran out and none of the Boots I can easily get to sell Benefit products. I have to make the effort to go into Town or the the Metro Centre to buy Benefit so I opted for something else. The No7 product is great, it doesn't make my lashes clumpy at all, but I do feel it looks better when I don't have eyeliner on. It seems to loose it's effect when I do. But it does make my lashes look rather natural, which I like.

Until I wrote this I didn't actually think I wore that much makeup, but maybe I do. Anyway, here it is my everyday makeup routine. And here is the final result. Hope you've all enjoyed and again sorry for the poor quality photos! Let me know any recommendations you have.
