100 Happy Days...Day 18

Day 18 - Meals out

I don't mind making meals, but I much prefer someone else doing it for me and them being stuck with the mess to clear up. Since being on my fitness drive, it's been hard to find good places to go for meals which give me a healthier option on choice. However, this hasn't always stopped me and I very rarely turn down an opportunity to go out.

Today was my Mum's birthday and as a treat I took her out for lunch. We went to this nice little pub called The Church Mouse which is only about 7 miles from my house. It's the first time in about 10 years since I've been to this place but as the pub is part of the Vintage Inn chain, and I've been to another of their places, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. And I wasn't disappointed.

The pub was decorated like a traditional old country pub, which it is really, had a lovely atmosphere, very relaxed and quiet...even though it was fairly busy. The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. We both choose food from their sandwich menu, my mum picking a Chicken and Bacon Sandwich with gourmet chips, whilst I had a Chicken, Stuffing and Cranberry sandwich (without the cranberry) and gourmet chips. The food was all very fresh, and nicely cooked. And in total we only paid £19.40 for the two sandwiches, the upgrade to gourmet chips for us both, one diet coke (for me...designated driver) and a small glass of red wine.

This is definitely another place on my recommendation list, and I'm definitely impressed with the Vintage Inn chain.

Happy birthday mum!
